Challenges Arise for Car Owners Due to Infotainment Systems

According to the Multimedia Quality survey conducted by the J.D. Power firm, Chevrolet, Dodge, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan stand out as some of the top performers

Automakers place significant emphasis on infotainment systems, yet these systems contribute to 25 percent of all issues related to vehicle multimedia, as reported by J.D. Power. This marks the third consecutive year with such a high number of reported problems. Notably, the primary concern pertains to connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the 2023 U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study by J.D. Power, it was revealed that a striking nine out of 10 issues were associated with the design of these systems. The study surveyed 93,380 individuals who had either purchased or leased new 2023 vehicles, collecting their feedback after 90 days of ownership. This comprehensive examination encompassed the evaluation of multimedia systems as a whole, as well as specific aspects such as navigation and audio speaker performance.

Ashley Edgar, who holds the position of Senior Director of Global Automotive Supplier Benchmarking, explained:

“Consumers seek user-friendly systems that are straightforward and do not divert too much attention from the road. The challenge for both automakers and suppliers lies in translating these consumer expectations into the design and functionality of these systems.”

J.D. Power conducted assessments for both vehicles and suppliers, recognizing Chevrolet, Dodge, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan as the recipients of top vehicle awards, with some sharing the honors. Below, you’ll find the top three vehicles in each category, along with their respective ratings on a 1,000-point scale.
